If the idea of an expo geared toward seniors doesn’t intrigue you enough to get you to go, maybe a $10 free play card from ilani does.

After not holding a senior expo last year, Volunteer Connections, a program of the Human Services Council, is bringing back the long-running event and fundraiser.

“We took a year off to retool the event,” Marcia Hale, program director, said in an email. “There was much disappointment last year when we did not produce an expo, and so far the excitement seems to be building that it is returning.”

For the first time, the Senior Wellness Connections Expo, happening 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 15, will be in ilani’s Cowlitz Ballroom. The first 500 attendees get a $10 free promo play card for the casino.

With a focus on health and wellness, the event will feature blood pressure screenings and spinal evaluations as well as talks on topics such as Medicare, nutrition, pain management and hearing health.

Vancouver Clinic is sponsoring the expo geared toward people 50 and older.

While admission is free, donations for Volunteer Connections are encouraged. Money raised at the expo goes to programs such as the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, the Pen Pal program where adults and fifth-graders exchange letters over the school year, and Project YES (the Yarn Engagement Society), a new program where volunteers knit and crochet items for homeless shelters and foster children.

During the expo people can visit with nonprofits and learn about volunteer opportunities.
