University of Portland senior Cody Hawken was named to the West Coast League’s first team on Wednesday.

The outfielder from Union High School played this summer for league champion Corvallis.  His .331 batting average tied for fifth highest in the league.

Honorable mention honors went to Cowlitz Black Bears pitcher Mitch Lines (Hockinson), Portland Pickles pitcher Daniel Copeland (Skyview) and Portland infielder Jace McKinney (Columbia River).

The WCL, a collegiate wood bat summer league, will have a team in Ridgefield next year. An official unveiling of the team will occur Sept. 7 at Ridgefield Outdoor Recreation Complex.

Fans can get more information and enter a “name the team” contest at www.ridgefieldbaseball.com.
