A new farmers market at Battle Ground Village opened in July. The Farmers’ Market at Battle Ground Village is open from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursdays through Sept. 20. It’s a smaller venue with fewer crowds than you find at other, more established markets in Clark County.
My first stop was Flat Tack Farm. This local farm (located at Heathen Estate, just 10 minutes from the market) had a bounty of summer produce spread out at its American flag-covered booth. It offers great staples: beets, carrots, kale, lettuce and broccoli, along with a mix of summer squash, fresh herbs (basil, dill, rosemary, lavender), pea shoots and kohlrabi — the turnip that looks like it came from outer space.
Co-owner Kelly Peters had bright fliers promoting a farmers market at her farm, which she owns with Patrick Dorris. I bought one of her adorable, handmade lavender-filled eye masks.
My next stop was at Anna Romanovsky’s Merely Musings booth, where she sells her own handmade greeting cards, cardstock signs with inspirational quotes and photos she took as a Peace Corps volunteer in Namibia. Across from Romanovsky was the More Bees booth, filled with soap, lip gloss and an assortment of natural products made from beeswax and honey.
