Local Babe Ruth teams fall in World Series openers

In spite scoring the game’s first two runs, KWRL Centerfield Roosters dropped their opener of the 13-15 Babe Ruth World Series, 13-3, in six innings Friday to New Castle, Ind. in Longview. It was the 15-year-old all-stars’ first game of the World Series tournament at David Story Field.

KWRL was held to five hits after taking a 2-0 first-inning lead. La Center’s Irving Alvarez took the loss, allowing six hits and three earned runs in three innings. He struck out six.

Alvarez, Cade Reitzenstein, Mike Good, Ethan Hefflin and Devyn Turner each had a hit and Alvarez drove in a pair of runs. Ridgefield’s Aidan Hundt had two RBIs.

New Castle took the lead for good with a five-inning third.

KWRL continues pool play against Albany, Minn., at 11 a.m. Saturday.

KWRL Hit Squad played the Southeast Region champions from Tallahassee, Fla., even for the first two innings before the Florida team came away with a 16-6 victory at Eagle Pass, Texas.

This was Hit Squad’s first of four pool-play games. Tallahassee is now 2-0.

Tallahassee led 5-2 after the top of the second inning, then Hit Squad scored three time to tie the game at 5-5.

Max Mitchell was 2 for 2 with an RBI and a stolen base, Tyler Howard was 2 for 3, Seth Minor had a hit and two RBI, and Tanner Beaman had a hit and RBI.

Hit Squad next plays Atlantic Shore, N.J., the Middle Atlantic champion, at 2:30 p.m. (Pacific) on Saturday.
