Weather Eye: Cooler temperatures won’t last beyond weekend

It certainly has been on the hot side here lately. But that upper low off the coast that we have been watching is forecast to move inland to our north, bringing clouds, cooler temperatures and perhaps a shower or two.

Don’t get your hopes up for a soaker, because that’s not in the cards. I’m sure some areas in Western Washington will get measurable rainfall. I think there’s a 50-50 chance we’ll get some moisture here in Clark County — maybe only enough to settle the dust.

We will take anything we can get at this point, right? Highs drop from the 90s today into the low 80s tomorrow and into the 70s Saturday. Then, as that low exits, we’ll go back to warm, dry weather. Highs Sunday through Wednesday range between 88 and 95 degrees. Another heat wave!?

I have been receiving rainfall reports from last month from our local observers, but many had no rain to report and some had just a trace, so we won’t get into the details this month. The bottom line: July saw the warm, dry trend continue.

If we didn’t have the haze and smoke overhead, we would have topped out at 100 degrees yesterday and today. A silver lining in the smoky skies? I’d rather have clear blue skies and be a bit warmer than have dirty air hanging over us.

Hopefully the haze will disappear when the weak weather system moves in Friday. Since the water year began Oct. 1, Vancouver has measured 28.82 inches of rain, 8.11 inches below average. Since Jan. 1, we have measured 14.63 inches, 6.55 inches below average.
