A five-run fifth inning helps Lakeside Recovery rally past the Vancouver Mavericks 9-5, ending the Mavericks’ run in the AAA American Legion state tournament one game shy of the title game on Wednesday.
Back-to-back doubles by Garrett Moen and Joshua Mansur gave the Mavericks’ a short-lived 3-1 lead in the top of the fifth. But Lakeside tallied five in the bottom of the frame to take a 6-3 lead. Lakeside added another three runs in the sixth inning to pull away, and advance to Thursday’s title game in Centralia against Pepsi Pal of Selah.
Moen finished 2 for 4 with two doubles and two runs scores, Mansur was 2 for 4 with a run and RBI. Grant Francis and Mason Hill each went 2 for 4 with a double and RBI.
The Mavericks won their first game Wednesday as Mansur and Hayden Minich combined on a five-hit shutout to beat Wilder Baseball of Port Angeles 10-0.
