A car heading north on Interstate 5 Wednesday morning left the freeway and crashed into a tree.
The crash occurred just after 6 a.m. near the exit for state Highway 502, the exit to Battle Ground. Clark County Fire & Rescue spokesman Tim Dawdy said the car veered off the east side of the freeway and hit a tree, which flipped the car onto its top. Besides firefighters, Washington State Patrol and Washington State Department of Transportation also responded.
The driver, whose name was not released, was pinned in the vehicle.
“It turned into a difficult extrication,” Dawdy said.
The car had to be cut away from the driver. However, Dawdy said, it would’ve been a lot worse if the man hadn’t worn a seat belt. The driver was transported by ambulance to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center.
At one point, a lane of I-5 was blocked, which clogged northbound traffic for about 45 minutes.
