A robbery at a Kohl’s in east Vancouver sent a nearby elementary school into a short lockdown Monday afternoon, and at least one boy was taken to the county juvenile jail.

Vancouver Police Department spokeswoman Kim Kapp said two boys went into the Kohl’s at 17001 S.E. Mill Plain Blvd. and reportedly stole some merchandise.

When someone confronted them, one of the boys displayed a handgun, then they ran into a nearby park.

Officers caught up with at least one of the boys, and he was booked into the county juvenile jail, Kapp said.

She said officers also located a weapon, but what kind of weapon it was or if it was real was unclear.

Evergreen Public Schools spokeswoman Gail Spolar said Columbia Valley Elementary was placed on lockdown as a precaution for police activity. The school was on lockdown for about five minutes, she said.
