Washougal — Seven elementary school students in Washougal competed in the Sodexo Future Chefs Challenge at Washougal High School on March 21. This year’s contest asked chefs to prepare healthy Asian fusion recipes. Hannah Carlin, a Hathaway Elementary School third-grader, finished first for her Asian rice bowl. Mari Jayne Kaphart, a Hathaway fourth-grader, came in second for her dish, titled Mari Jayne’s Famous Egg Flower Soup. Hathaway third-grader Charlotte Bisila earned third place for her Asian cashew chicken wraps. The recipes were judged on originality, taste, presentation and use of healthy ingredients. The finalists prepared and presented their dishes with the help of high school culinary students and Sodexo staff in the high school’s commercial kitchen.
