Master Gardeners teach students at Enrichment Fair

Hazel Dell — Hazel Dell Elementary School students had nearly 40 classes to choose from at the school’s annual Enrichment Fair, from yoga to taking apart appliances to messy science. Each student choose three classes to take. The Washington State University Vancouver Master Gardeners were on hand to teach their Lett*uce Eat class, in which students examined and tasted several varieties of lettuce and spinach. The students made snacks, such as lettuce-cheese stick rolls, romaine with salsa dip and spinach with ranch. They also planted lettuce in the school garden that will be harvested for the school weekend backpack program. The garden classes were led by Master Gardeners Pam Kirkaldie and Barbara Nordstrom with volunteers Kay Hudziak and Lisa Sundstrom.
