Take The Columbian survey on property tax changes

Homeowners see increase partially due to legislation funding K-12 education

As the state’s school funding package goes into effect, nearly every Clark County homeowner saw an increase in their property tax bill.

County Assessor Pete Van Nortwick in February told Clark County councilors property owners can expect increases between 42 cents per thousand to $2.76 per thousand, depending on where the property is located.

The increase is partially the result of legislation last year that was designed to satisfy a Washington State Supreme Court decision mandating the state fund basic education.

Other parts of the county have seen larger increases than elsewhere because of approved levies and bonds.

The Columbian is seeking homeowners willing to share their property tax statements for an upcoming article. Please complete our survey below or at bit.ly/propertytaxsurvey.
