Despite two home runs each by Chaz Lopez and Cody Rice, the Clark College baseball team couldn’t hold off Lane College, falling in the first game of an NWAC South region doubleheader Friday, 10-8 at Eugene, Ore.

Clark couldn’t get any offense going in the second game, losing 3-0 on a one-hitter.

In the first game, Clark scored four runs in the sixth inning to tie the game at 6-6. Lopez hit a three-run home run, and Rice followed one batter later with a solo shot.

Lane came back with a four-run seventh inning to take a 10-6 lead.

Lopez hit a solo home run in the eighth, and Rice homered in the ninth, but Lane then retired the next three Clark batters to end the game.

Lopez had the only Clark hit in the second game. Penguins batters struck out 11 times.

Clark (15-9, 6-5) and Lane (11-13, 5-3) are scheduled to play a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Kindsfather Field on Saturday.
