A man was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after he was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross Highway 99 in Hazel Dell Thursday evening.

Deputies and ambulances were called to the 7700 block of Northeast Highway 99, south of Northeast 78th Street, after 6:45 p.m., according to dispatch records.

Clark County sheriff’s Sgt. Chad Rothenberger said witnesses at the scene told deputies a vehicle struck the man shortly after he stepped onto the roadway.

He was not in the crosswalk, Rothenberger said.

Rothenberger said the man’s injuries were extensive and life-threatening.

The driver was cooperating with investigators, he said, and added the sheriff’s office has not released the names of the people involved pending family notification.
