Volunteer Connections provides opportunities through the Human Services Council. For information on the following and other opportunities, call 360-735-3690.

• Earth Day is celebrated April 21 in Vancouver. Volunteers are needed for outdoor environmentally related activities such as planting a bee-friendly garden, clearing a trail, or sprucing up a park. Many events are family and group friendly, some are limited to small groups. Early registration is suggested.

• The city of Vancouver’s Community VolunTOUR Passport Program explores unique and historic public spaces around the city. You’ll learn some history and complete a valuable volunteer project. Upcoming locations are April 12 and 26 in the Foley neighborhood; and May 10 and 24 in the area near Esther Short Park.

• Confluence supports two historic projects near Vancouver: the Land Bridge and the Sandy River Delta near Troutdale, Ore. Volunteers are needed to help at events engaging the public at the information table, or helping with light gardening or landscape maintenance. Volunteers must be able to lift 20 pounds, and occasionally walk up to 2.5 miles.

• The Historic Trust is in critical need of docents to lead tours of historic buildings on the Fort Vancouver grounds. Training is provided. Volunteers must be comfortable speaking in front of groups and able to navigate the grounds and the historic buildings, many of which include stairs.
