The Clark County Sheriff’s Office says a 24-year-old man stabbed his grandfather in the neck Wednesday morning at a home in the Minnehaha area of Vancouver.

Deputies were dispatched to 4000 N.E. 44th Ave. about 8:50 a.m. on the report of a stabbing, according to a sheriff’s office press release.

The grandfather, 69, was stabbed in the neck and seriously injured, deputies said. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Deputies determined the victim’s grandson was the primary suspect, and he fled on foot before they arrived.

The grandson was taken into custody a short time later in a nearby park, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies did not release his name or say whether he would face criminal charges.

As a precaution, Truman Elementary, Eleanor Roosevelt Elementary and Fir Grove Children’s Center were on lockdown while police searched for the suspect.

The Clark County Major Crimes and Tactical Detective units continue to investigate the incident.
