Freshman Riley McCarthy broke a sixth-inning tie with a 2-run home run, jumpstarting Mountain View’s 10 runs in the final two innings for a 12-3 victory over Evergreen in Monday’s 3A Greater St. Helens League baseball game.

The Thunder remain unbeaten in 3A GSHL play, improving to 5-0 (7-2) overall.

Initially ruled a ground-rule double to left with one out in the sixth. Umpires later conversed and awarded McCarthy (2 for 2, three RBIs) the home run that pushed the Thunder’s lead to 4-2.

It was part of 10 runs over the sixth and seventh innings for the Thunder, including a seven-run seventh for its largest lead of the game, 12-2. Seven of Mountain View’s 11 hits came in the final two innings, highlighted by RBI doubles from Andrew Selden and Jasper Rank.

Rank, the Thunder’s starter, allowed two earned runs on five hits and struck out five in the win. Rank also went 3 for 5.

Evergreen starter Tommy Snyder, who took a no-decision, pitched 4 2/3, allowed four hits and struck out six. David Montei led the Plainsmen with two hits.
