A garage fire displaced two people from their home Saturday night in east Vancouver.
Vancouver firefighters responded to a call at about 9:30 p.m. near the 4000 block of Northeast 141st Avenue in the Burnt Bridge Creek neighborhood.
Neighbors called to report a fire in the garage, Capt. Raymond Egan of the Vancouver Fire Department said. When firefighters arrived, the garage was fully engulfed.
Egan said firefighters immediately attacked the fire to contain the blaze and with more units arriving soon afterward, the fire was brought under control.
The flames did not reach the living space of the home, Egan said, but extensive smoke damage forced the two residents to find temporary shelter.
No one was injured, but Egan said there was a dog and cat reported missing initially. It is unknown if the animals were found.
The cause of the fire is unknown and is under investigation.
Firefighters returned to the home Sunday afternoon after someone noticed debris around a refrigerator were still smoldering.
Department spokesman Kevin Stromberg said there were no flames, and firefighters but some water on the debris and pulled the fridge outside.
