Why: The Margarita Factory Hazel Dell recently opened in the Hazel Dell Towne Center; it’s the sixth location of the Factory installments in Clark County. The restaurant provides a complete menu of Mexican cuisine favorites for the whole family, a festive atmosphere and a full bar in addition to the standard and custom margarita selection.

Atmosphere: Its location at the large end of the strip mall provides ample seating for both families and the over-21 crowd within. Two enclosed tents, just beyond roll-up doors, provide a lot of additional seating with an outdoor patio vibe, complete with heaters. The space has a dressed up industrial-meets-barn feel. Large ornate mirrors, string lights, lantern-style fixtures and marble columns add an eclectic touch above the stained concrete floor.

What I tried: I settled on the street tacos and my dining companion had the Live Strong burrito. We paired our meals with custom-flavored margaritas and found them to our liking.

I tried both the chicken and pork in the tacos, which consisted of shredded meat and Cotija cheese with onions, cilantro and lime on the side, as well as a secret hot sauce. Of the two meats, I preferred the pork, which was juicy, tender and flavorful. I found the chicken to be dry and somewhat bland. The hot sauce was a delicious addition that bumped up the tacos a notch. The tacos were served with Spanish rice and homemade refried beans. The rice was tasty and the beans were smooth with a nice balance of unmashed beans in the portion.

My dining companion thoroughly enjoyed the burrito, which combined Spanish rice, refried beans, and shredded chicken (beef is also an option) wrapped in a large flour tortilla and topped with enchilada salsa, Cotija cheese, onions, tomato, lettuce, sour cream and guacamole.

Both entrees were served on hot plates.

Menu highlights beyond what I tried: Appetizers include chicken taquitos, zesty calamari, Mexican pizza, jalapeño poppers, buffalo wings and coconut shrimp. Tortilla soup, caldo de pollo and menudo are on the menu. The avocado tostada sounded delicious, as did the Puerco Osso Bucco, which is a large pork shank in a light, tangy marinade. The several enchilada options include rancheras, chipotle, verdes, mole and shrimp. Chicken dishes include a zesty pineapple chicken, carnitas, spicy, chipotle and a la creme. The Texas taco salad sounded good. This salad consists of Spanish rice, homemade refried beans, lettuce, cheese, tomato and diners’ choice of either ground beef or shredded chicken breast in a 12-inch flour tortilla shell. Among the beef entree options is the chile Colorado and carne asada dishes. Fajitas come in chicken, steak, shrimp and combos. Vegetarian dishes available include a veggie enchilada, tostada, burrito, fajita, nachos and veggie taco salad. A bacon blue cheese burger, a pepper jack guacamole burger and an avocado bacon cheddar burger are available, as well as a T-bone steak. Dessert choices include churros, flan, deep-fried ice cream, mango cake, sopapillas, Mexican cheese cake, banana chili, Oreo overload, chocolate fondue and mud pie ice cream cake.

Other observations: The atmosphere is lively and comfortable. The service was friendly and attentive. The food is on par with many of the other Mexican restaurants in Clark County, including the Factory’s five other locations. The restaurant has to-go platters.

Cost: Appetizers cost $8.50 to $26. Salads are $12.25 to $15.50. Soup comes in a cup or a bowl for $6.75 to $15.50. Tostadas, burritos, tacos and enchiladas range from $11.50 to $21.99. Chicken and other special entrees start at 14.99 and top out at $30.99. Vegetarian options cost $11.50 to $15.50. American options are $12 to $18.99. Desserts cost $5.25 to $10.75.
