Earth Day is April 21 and organizers are seeking volunteers to help spruce up parks, waterways, and natural areas throughout the county, by pulling weeds, raking, planting, removing litter or doing trail maintenance. Individuals and groups are welcome, including children 7 and older. Most events are from 9 a.m. to noon.
PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center seeks volunteer help in the gift shop and at the lobby information desk.
Northwest Association for Blind Athletes seeks volunteer tandem bike captains at an event on April 29 for visually impaired people. No experience is necessary other than the ability to ride a bike.
Vancouver Public Schools seeks literacy and math tutors to work one-on-one or in small groups with students. A commitment of one hour per week, as a minimum, is requested.
Volunteer Services of Catholic Charities is looking for drivers to provide rides to low-income, elderly or disabled people to medical appointments, the grocery store, or on other essential errands. Mileage reimbursement is available.
Volunteer Connections seeks committee members to help with a new event in the fall. The committee will meet monthly, and then weekly for one month before the event. Help is needed with publicity, sponsor solicitation, vendor recruitment and event activities.
The city of Vancouver seeks to fill a midterm vacancy on the Parking Advisory Committee, a seven-member volunteer body that advises city council and staff on parking policy and program implementation. The committee meets at 7:30 a.m. on the fourth Wednesday of the month at City Hall, or as scheduled. Applications are at www.cityofvancouver.us/boards.
