Battle Ground — Battle Ground Public Schools third- and fourth-graders showed off their culinary skills on March 7 at the district’s annual Future Chefs Challenge, organized by Sodexo, the district’s food services partner. The students created original, healthy recipes for Asian-inspired snacks. They presented their food to judges Battle Ground Mayor Mike Dalesandro and Beau Singer, the Pleasant Valley Primary School fifth-grader who won the competition last year. Daybreak Primary third-grader Chloe Waller scored a first-place finish for her crispy wontons with Asian salsa recipe, which will now be considered for a regional finalist award. McKenzie Wesockes, a fourth-grade student Glenwood Heights Primary School, won the Healthy Award for her cauliflower fried rice dish. Pleasant Valley third-grader Aksel Bristol won the Judge’s Choice award for his Korean pork tacos.
