Hazel Dell North — The Vancouver Community Concert Band had a busy last few months, as a full band and in smaller groups of musicians. The full band played the 80th anniversary celebration of Valery Chkalov’s landmark transpolar flight from Moscow to Pearson Field, a naturalization ceremony for new citizens, the Fourth of July celebration at Felida Park, a Memorial Day concert at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, National Night Out at the Leroy Haagen Memorial Park and the Vintage Base Ball game at Fort Vancouver National Historic Site. The Dixieland Band and German Band have been playing monthly at the Cascade Park Library and Veterans Affairs office in Vancouver, respectively. Woodwinds Anonymous played for two teas sponsored by the Fort National Trust on Kentucky Derby day, and has performed monthly at the Vancouver Community Library and for a lecture on “Music & the Brain.” For more information, visit www.facebook.com/VCCBand.
