The fall Chinook season on the Columbia River is open upstream of the mouth of the Lewis River. The fall run has been better than expected, with conditions favorable for catches despite the run being smaller than in previous years.

Butch Trunk of Vancouver caught a nice Chinook salmon at Frenchman’s Bar Regional Park on a beautiful Tuesday afternoon. Trunk, who has been fishing since 1960, said he learned the sport from his dad.

“Some days you have some luck, some days you just hold down the chair,” Trunk said.
