The 17-year-old boy driving the vehicle involved in the fatal, single-vehicle crash in east Vancouver on Wednesday night was riding with his 15-year-old brother, according to the Vancouver Police Department.

The crash, near Southeast 164th Avenue and Mill Plain Boulevard, was reported around 6:40 p.m. The teen’s vehicle hit a tree.

The younger brother was seriously hurt, and remained in an area hospital Thursday in critical condition, the police said. The 17-year-old driver was dead when emergency workers arrived.

The police department’s traffic detectives are investigating the crash. It appeared excessive speed was a factor in the crash, police said. The department did not name the two teens.
