Lunch program brings cherry tomatoes to elementary schools

Fircrest — Fircrest Elementary School was home to Washington State University Extension’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education’s Harvest of the Month this month. The program worked with Evergreen Public Schools to feature a different local ingredient on lunch menus throughout the year. This month focuses on cherry tomatoes. At Fircrest, approximately 375 students tasted a medley of cherry tomatoes, and most gave it a thumbs-up. The tomatoes came from Pride of Umpqua Farm in Roseburg, Ore. Cherry tomatoes will be features on the lunch menu throughout Evergreen elementary schools this month.
