Vancouver conservative activist Joey Gibson announced Saturday afternoon that he’s moving his planned Sunday rally and march from Portland to downtown Vancouver.

The Patriot Prayer leader announced the location change on his Facebook page, citing the large group of anti-protesters expected in Portland.

The Peaceful Vancouver Freedom March will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday at Vancouver Landing Amphitheater, 110 Columbia St. The event will feature speakers and a short march in Vancouver before the group heads over the Interstate Bridge to Portland.

Gibson said in the Facebook announcement that Vancouver Police Department is aware of the change and will be at the event.

“It’s going to be loaded with police presence, and, as you know, in Vancouver they don’t mess around,” Gibson said. “So this is a way for us to continue to be peaceful.”

A small group — the Patriot Prayer “inner circle” — will still march in Portland at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Gibson said. However, he urged those who want a peaceful march to attend the Vancouver event.
