Clark soccer teams sweep league opening matches

Freshman Eric Hernandez scored a hat trick as the Clark College men’s soccer team opened NWAC South region play on Saturday with a 3-1 win against Lane at Eugene.

All three of Hernandez’s goals were unassisted. He scored in the 26th, 69th and 82nd minute. He also received a yellow card in the 76th minute.

Lane had just two shots on goal and scored in the 85th minute to prevent the shutout.

Sarah Teubner’s unassisted goal in the 89th minute broke a 1-1 tie as the Clark women beat Lane 2-1.

Lane tied the match in the 35th minute.

The next match for the Clark women (2-2-0 overall) is 2 p.m. Wednesday against Portland at Hillsboro. The Clark men (1-3-0) are off until next Saturday when they play Chemeketa at Salem.
