Michael Taras passed for 216 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for 92 more as the Heritage Timberwolves beat Evergreen 34-7 in a non-league game Friday at McKenzie Stadium.
Robbie Meadors caught six passes for 132 yards and two touchdowns and he also intercepted a pass on defense for the Timberwolves.
Taras got Heritage (2-0) on the board first with his feet – rushing twice for 37 yards – to set up a 5-yard touchdown pass to Meadows in the first quarter.
Taras and Meadors connected again on a 52-yard touchdown pass play in the second quarter as the Timberwolves took a 16-0 lead.
Tara then found Neithan Stanley for a 32-yard touchdown pass to give Heritage a 22-0 lead at halftime.
Evergreen found success on the ground in the second half, driving 74 yards on 13 plays – 12 rushes – with Eli Vaa-Leiataua punching it in from 2 yards out, cutting Heritage’s edge to 22-7.
Evergreen’s defense forced a punt, but the Plainsmen fumbled on their next offensive possession. That led to Ammon Garrison’s 29-yard TD reception that put Heritage up 28-7.
A muffed punt return in the fourth quarter led to Heritage’s final score, a 2-yard run by Kahai Umiamaka.
Vaa-Leiataua rushed for 113 yards for Evergreen (1-1).
