CAMAS — A rabid bat was found outside a home in Camas this week, Clark County health officials said.
The bat was found in a Camas backyard Sunday evening, health officials said. The health department confirmed Friday the bat had rabies.
No one was exposed to rabies. But, to prevent the spread of the disease, officials said people should stay away from wild animals, particularly bats, and keep their pets vaccinated.
Bats are the primary carrier for rabies in the Pacific Northwest.
Health officials say anyone who finds a bat in their home or suspects an animal has rabies should call 360-397-8182 during business hours or 888-727-6230 after hours. Anyone who has been bitten or exposed to an animal that may be rabid should contact their doctor and local health department.
