The Vancouver Fire Department reported that a commercial blaze was under control Friday night after three hours of firefighting effort.

Several units were called to West Van Materials Recovery Center, 6601 N.W. Old Lower River Road, at about 6 p.m. They found a fire in a machine that processes materials for recycling, said Darrin Deming, fire department public information officer.

“It was a very difficult fire to get to,” Deming said at 9:10 p.m.

At that point, the fire was considered as under control. Firefighters were still in the process of looking for smoldering spots that might erupt.

The cause is under investigation.
