Vancouver police on Wednesday arrested a Vancouver woman suspected of pepper-spraying another woman sitting in her car, then making off with her purse.

Ashley Leann Griffin, 19, made her first appearance in court Thursday on suspicion of first-degree robbery.

According to court records, Julia Anderson told officers a woman confronted her Sept. 5 along Officers Row. The woman, identified as Griffin, started to yell at Anderson as she was sitting in her car, saying Anderson had cut her off in traffic.

Griffin then sprayed Anderson with pepper spray and reached into Anderson’s car to grab her purse. Griffin fled, driving off in an SUV, according to court records. Investigators narrowed down Griffin as a possible suspect, and Anderson later identified her from a photo lineup.

A search of Griffin’s home turned up Anderson’s stolen property, court records state.

Griffin was already in custody on separate assault charges. Her total bail was set at $190,000. Her next court date was set for Nov. 9.
