Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Vancouver man Tuesday on suspicion of crashing a car he stole into another driver.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a call at the Winco south of Brush Prairie, 11310 N.E. 119th St., after someone reported seeing a man breaking into a Honda Accord.

A deputy spotted the stolen car, and when he attempted to stop it, the driver fled east on Northeast 119th Street. He turned south onto Northeast 124th Avenue, and the deputy ended the pursuit.

The sheriff’s office said the driver continued south at high speed, then passed through a red light at Northeast 124th Avenue and Northeast 99th Street while trying to turn east.

The stolen car then struck a Honda Civic heading west, the sheriff’s office said. The driver of the stolen car, identified as Delane Turcott, 33, then fled on foot.

A person nearby, Walter Casch, followed and detained Turcott until deputies arrived, according to court records. Turcott was booked into the Clark County Jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and for an outstanding Department of Corrections warrant. The sheriff’s office said further charges were expected.

The driver in the other Honda, Andrew R. Gilbert, was taken to a hospital with injuries the sheriff’s office said were not life-threatening. His condition was not available Wednesday.

A judge on Wednesday set Turcott’s bail at $50,000. His next court date, an arraignment hearing, was set for Nov. 8.
