Commuters should expect a longer travel time this morning due to patchy fog that will likely persist through about 10 a.m., according to the National Weather Service in Portland.

Cities affected include Vancouver, Amboy, Battle Ground, Ridgefield, Washougal and Yacolt, as well as a number of cities in the greater Portland metro area and Central Willamette Valley and South Willamette Valley in Oregon.

The fog may be locally dense with visibility less than a quarter-mile, the National Weather Service said.

As of about 7 a.m., traffic heading south on Interstate 5 was beginning to back up past 35th Street. And there’s congestion on Interstate 205 at state Highway 14 and at Mill Plain Boulevard east, traffic cameras show.

The Washington State Department of Transportation urges people to plan extra time for travel, slow down and use low-beam headlights.

The temperature today is expected to reach 62 degrees, with a low of 45 degrees. There’s a chance of rain showers, mostly after 2 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
