Canon Racanelli passed for 305 yards and four touchdowns as Hockinson beat Columbia River 42-14 to clinch the Class 2A Greater St. Helens League title on Friday.

The Hawks’ win and Washougal’s loss gave Hockinson another league crown.

As the home Chieftains closed to within two scores and appeared to be gaining some momentum in this 2A GSHL battle with just 1:05 left in the first half, Racanelli appeared to forget about the two turnovers he had already committed and instead drove his team 76 yards in under a minute to re-extend the Hawk lead to 21.

“Coach Steele pushes us to do everything in a minute,” senior linebacker Kyle Brabec said of the impressive 40-second drive to end the first half. “I was completely confident.”

On that last minute drive, Racanelli connected with his brother, Sawyer, three times for 60 yards before rolling to his left and throwing a strike into Peyton Brammer’s outstretched arms in the front corner of the end zone for a 16-yard score.

“He’s mentally there,” Brabec said of his senior quarterback. “We have complete trust in him.”

River had opportunities to keep this contest close throughout, even recovering an onside kick to begin the second half. But dropped passes, 115 penalty yards, and an inability to convert on third downs proved to be too much to overcome the potent Racanelli combo.

“We’re still looking for more,” Brabec said.

Brabec led the Hawks with two sacks and a tackle for loss.
