RIDGEFIELD — Graham Moody had a birdie putt lip out on No. 18.
Dante Heitschmidt had a par putt do the same on the first playoff hole.
And all through that, Willie Yeh was just steady.
Yeh sank a short par putt on the first playoff hole Tuesday to capture the 3A boys golf district tournament over his teammate Moody and Heitschmidt of Prairie.
All three players tied at 1-over 145 for 36 holes after regulation. Yeh got there with a round of 68 on Tuesday.
When asked what was the difference Tuesday from Monday’s round of 77, Yeh said, “my putting and definitely fewer missed shots. I was just more consistent today.”
On the playoff hole — the par-4 No. 10 — Yeh put his second shot on the green while Moody and Heitschmidt were just off.
Moody’s chip ran past the hole and his par putt also missed. Heitschmidt chipped within six inches of the hole before missing his par putt.
Yeh putted close on his third shot, then sank a short putt for the victory.
“I was a little surprised with that miss (by Heitschmidt), but I would say overall my play on that hole was solid,” Yeh said.
Moody earned the runner-up spot with a par on the second playoff hole.
All three players in the playoff advanced directly to state. Moody shot 73-72, and Heitschmidt followed up Monday’s 75 with 2-under 70 on Tuesday.
With two freshmen, Yeh and Moody, leading the way, Mountain View captured the district team title, outdistancing Prairie 208-179. Mountain View’s Mason White (fourth, 148) and Ben Arthur (ninth, 164) earned berths to next spring’s bi-district tournament.
“This is a great team this year,” Moody said. “It’s sad that we have a couple of seniors that are going to be leaving after this year. Hopefully we’ll be able to spend a lot of time with them as we head to state (next spring). It’s been a lot of fun this fall. You couldn’t ask for a better team.”
Also advancing to bi-district were Prairie’s Jacob Abrahamson (155), Evergreen’s Russel Fearington (161) and Kelso’s Jaret Rakoz (157) and Braxton Martin (162).
