Washougal — The Southwest Washington Tamale Festival will be held from 1 to 9 p.m. on Oct. 21 at Reflection Plaza, 1703 Main St., Washougal, and organizers are looking for contestants for the tamale cooking contest.
There will be divisions for home cooks with family recipes and another for professionals who work in restaurants, catering or food trucks. Entries will be judged in three categories: meat, no meat or vegetarian, and sweet/dessert.
Winners will be determined based on taste, technique, appearance and overall quality.
Southwest Washington League of United Latin American Citizens is organizing the event, which is free to the public. The festival will feature a craft area for kids, tamale making demonstrations from 2 to 3 p.m., food vendors, a beer garden, local craft vendors, music and dancing.
