Expect slowdowns on I-84 near Lindsey Creek

Portland — Drivers of Interstate 84 will experience rolling slowdowns and delays between 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. today because of rock blasting work related to finishing the Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail.

According to a news release from the Oregon Department of Transportation, the delays could last for an hour. Thursday’s will be the first of possibly seven closures needed in upcoming weeks for controlled blasting near milepost 53.

The blasting is needed to connect the Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail segment between Wyeth and Lindsey Creek.

Because of the danger of explosives, the rolling slowdowns will stop motorists from being inside the work zone during blasting operations. After the blasts are finished, crews will clear any debris and then reopen the freeway.

Up to seven blasts will likely occur once a week until mid-November. Dates will be announced ahead of time.
