Local beautician opens eyes to hunger during fashion show fundraiser

Esther Short — Vancouver-based beautician Bee Sam participated in Taste of Style, a fundraiser for the Oregon Food Bank held in Portland on Sept. 16. For the event, Sam outfitted her two models, Miranda Dowler and Jess Miller, in headpieces that fit with the event’s theme, “Unmask the Face of Hunger.” For one headpiece, Sam fashioned numerous eyeballs to Dowler. The other piece was created using fast-food packaging and clippings from newspapers to create a hair collage. The event raised more than $8,000 for the food bank, which serves the state of Oregon and Clark County.
