Those interested in serving as a commissioner for a local drainage or diking improvement district will have their big chance as the filing period for these elected positions will begin next month.
At 8 a.m. Dec. 11, the Clark County Elections Department will begin taking candidate filings for the positions of commissioner for Drainage District No. 2, Drainage Improvement District No. 5 and Diking Improvement District No. 14, according to a county news release.
The filing period will end at 5 p.m. Dec. 15.
The elections for these positions will be Feb. 6.
A county news release states that if only one candidate files for any of these three positions, that candidate will be deemed elected and no election for that office will be held.
The release further states that in order to be eligible to file or to vote within each of these districts, a person must have been a registered voter within the district for at least 30 days and also must have owned property within the district for at least 30 days.
