Girls basketball: Woodland 78, Hudson’s Bay 36

Payten Foster and Nicole Guthrie each had 18 points, Dana Glovick added 15 and Woodland opened its season with a home win.

Foster, Guthrie and Glovick are all front-court players and the Beavers went to them repeatedly. Woodland shot 45 free throws and did not make a 3-pointer.

Glovick added nine rebounds and four steals. Foster had five rebounds and five steals.

“It was a typical first game,” Woodland coach Glen Flanagan said. “Our girls played hard and did what we asked. It wasn’t the prettiest game, but the effort was there.”

Kelly Sweyer had eight points and six steals. McKenna Flanagan had a team-high six assists.

Kamelai Powell had 16 points to lead Hudson’s Bay (0-1).
