Current and former military personnel can get free business attire and other civilian clothing from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Dec. 8 at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7824, 400 N. Andresen Road.

The clothing distribution is part of a Suits for Soldiers project organized by the Farmers Insurance district office in Vancouver.

New and used clothing for both men and women will be distributed to veterans, military retirees and active-duty personnel.

The district office has been collecting clothing since October. Donors can still bring contributions to the office — 3925 N.E. 72nd Ave., Suite 104 — during business hours through November.

Donors also can contact Ann Valentine to have clothing picked up in the Vancouver area. Contact her at avalentine@district7906.com or call 360-571-4666.

This is the second year for the program in Vancouver.

“In just one month of collecting donations, we’ve received over 1,000 articles of men’s and women’s professional business attire, which is already more than the total we received in 2016,” Valentine said.

People do not need to reserve spots for the Dec. 8 event, though they are welcome to do so by calling Valentine.

“Also, we will not be asking for proof of military service; we’re going to operate by the honor system, like we did last year,” she said.

Several other community participants will donate their own services and products, including haircuts and office supplies.
