Ridgefield — When the new 5th through 8th grade campus opens in the Ridgefield School District for the start of the 2018 school year, some students will be able to look up and see their names in the building.

Alliance Industrial Group, a local steel fabricator in Ridgefield, delivered a steel beam to the district for students to sign. The personalized steel beam will be installed in the 7th and 8th grade classroom wing of the district’s new school complex.

School district officials came up with the idea earlier this year as a way for students to take part in the construction process of the new schools.

Union Ridge Elementary School students from Mindy Morris’ and Nani Mack’s fourth grade classes signed the beam.
