Meadow Homes — Fort Vancouver High School’s Center for International Studies recognized five distinguished alumni at an Oct. 6 homecoming assembly.

The recipients participated in a panel discussion and were introduced by students at the assembly. The honorees were: Max Beatty, class of 2009, Julie Merlino Pagel, class of 1979, Linda Langsdorf Johnson, class of 1966, Bruce Hagensen, class of 1962, and Clem Eischen, class of 1945.

Beatty was diagnosed with testicular cancer while at Pacific Lutheran University, and was still drafted by the San Diego Padres. Pagel started coaching in 1983 and teaching in 1984, and she still coaches and mentors new coaches despite retiring from teaching this year. Johnson successfully advocated to have women’s names listed in the telephone book along with their spouse’s name.

Hagensen is a former mayor, city councilor and First Citizen award winner. Eischen competed in the 1948 Olympics and lobbied for physical therapy to be covered by insurance.
