Washougal — Each year before Mother’s Day, Gause Elementary School students get a little extra time with their moms during the school’s Moms and Muffins event. This year’s event, the sixth annual, was held May 11. Moms and guardians came to the school and read to their kids while enjoying some morning treats. “Students and their guest have a muffin, juice and read a good book together,” event organizer and first-grade teacher Marvina Bugajski said in a release from the district. “At the end of the event, there is a raffle for students to win books of their own.” Books were purchased through a grant from iQ Credit Union. The event, which started out small and was held in the school library, has grown to the point where now only the cafeteria can fit everyone. There were about 130 adults with their children, for a total of about 400 attendees, Bugajski said in the release. The school’s Donuts with Dads event is scheduled for June.
