Clark College’s Olivia Rose won the long jump at the NWAC Championships on Monday at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, Ore.
The sophomore from Hoquiam went 18 feet, 7 3/4 inches to win by four inches.
Rose also posted the fourth-fastest time in the preliminaries of the 100 meters at 12.65 seconds on the first day of the two-day meet.
Sadie Dalgleish, a Clark sophomore from R.A. Long High in Longview, was second in the 3,000 steeplechase with a time of 11:59.29. The winning time was 11:51.16.
The Clark women’s team was in fourth place out of 10 teams through seven events.
Also scoring points for the Penguins, Tresa Marsh was fifth in the 10,000 with a time of 43:12.43, and Tayler Cearley was seventh in 44:53.16. Makala Gardner was seventh in the shot put at 37-4 1/2 .
For the Clark men, Columbia River High grad Dan Nehnevaj was fifth in the 10K (34:40.25), and Ridgefield grad Sam Andersen was seventh (35:07.68). Zachariah Hofschneider placed eighth in the hammer (132-10).
The second day of the meet gets under way with field events at 10 a.m. and track finals beginning at noon. There are 13 women’s events and 14 men’s events on today’s schedule.
SOFTBALL: Wenatchee Valley won seven loser-out games in a row to capture the NWAC softball crown.
The No. 3 seed Knights, which eliminated Clark on Saturday, defeated No. 1 Douglas of Westminster, B.C., twice on Monday 8-5 and 12-6 for the title at Spokane. It was their second title overall, having last won in 2013.
Douglas finished runner-up for the second year in a row.
