Washougal — The new $2.3 million Washougal Transportation Facility officially opened on April 25. It was funded through a capital facilities bond voters approved in February 2015. The new 5,000-square-foot facility features three indoor and outdoor maintenance bays for service and repair, office space for bus dispatch and on-site parking for 36 buses, 36 drivers and maintenance and dispatch staff. It replaces the 70-year-old former shop. “It was on a busy street, and with buses coming and going, we would cause congestion there four times a day,” Jesse Miller, the district’s transportation supervisor, said in a release from the district. “We now have two ways to exit and enter, and traffic is less busy in this part of town. This is not only a convenience for us, but also the many patrons in town that have supported this much needed improvement.”
