I would score Monday a perfect day weather-wise, with blue skies, sunshine and comfortable afternoon temperatures in the low 70s. Today is a repeat but we shift to the mid-70s and Wednesday bounces upward close to that 80-degree mark we all love.
Other than that, nothing has changed much from our discussion on Sunday. The down spiral begins Thursday, lasting into the weekend and next week. In fact, I still do not see an end to the cool, unsettled weather coming up. Extended forecast charts keep us chilly well into mid-May.
Monday did get off to a cool start with lows around 40 degrees in the city and into the 30s, with frost reported in outlying Clark County. My advice to gardeners is to wait before planting warm-weather crops or setting tomatoes outside.
Usually I say it is OK to plant everything on Mother’s Day, but it will not be safe for a while longer as any areas outside greater Vancouver are still prone to a freezing frost. Especially with the cold air mass coming in.
