Sheriff’s deputies are joining investigators with the county fire marshal’s office after firefighters responded Tuesday afternoon to a fire on the same north county property where a different fire destroyed a motor home Monday.
Firefighters were called to Tuesday’s fire, northeast of La Center at 37414 N.E. 81st Ave., around 4:45 p.m.
On Monday morning, a fire apparently spread from a motor home into a nearby manufactured home on the property. The fire destroyed the motor home, damaged the manufactured home and sent a man to the hospital with severe burns.
Clark County Fire District 10 Assistant Chief Gordon Brooks said Tuesday’s fire burned an older travel trailer and just about finished off what was left of the manufactured home.
Like the motor home from Monday’s fire, the travel trailer was also parked near the house, Brooks said. It appeared to have been used as storage.
No one was injured in Tuesday’s fire. It was unclear whether anyone was around at the time, Brooks said. The manufactured home on the property wasn’t habitable after Monday’s fire, but there are a few other travel trailers on the property.
Monday’s fire apparently started as a homeowner was trying to start the motor home and putting fuel in its carburetor.
Something went wrong, sparking a fire, which spread from the vehicle and to the building.
Brooks recalled a similar fire on the property in a travel trailer last year. He also said neighbors have claimed Tuesday’s fire was set on purpose and have had problems with the property for some time.
The Clark County Fire Marshal’s Office was investigating both fires.
