A Washougal man faces a vehicular assault charge after, police say, he was driving under the influence when he crashed into a vehicle, injuring an 8-year-old girl.
Bryan Desiderio Bocanegra, 34, made a first court appearance Monday on charges of vehicular assault and driving under the influence of intoxicants.
Bocanegra was driving south in the 3900 block of Andresen Road at about 5:45 p.m. Saturday when he crashed into a vehicle occupied by a woman and her two children, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in the case.
The 8-year-old said her neck hurt after the collision. She was taken to a hospital for evaluation and treatment of whiplash, according to the affidavit. Her mother, April Grindle, 36, was checked at the hospital for complaint of a migraine, neck pain and pain in her right side, a court document states.
A police officer at the scene of the collision noted Bocanegra had watery, bloodshot eyes and smelled of alcohol, the court document states. Judge Derek Vanderwood set Bocanegra’s bail at $15,000 and his arraignment for May 19.
