One man was hospitalized with serious burns after a fire that destroyed a motor home and damaged a manufactured home northeast of La Center Monday morning.

Firefighters were called around 11:20 a.m. to a structure fire at 37414 N.E. 81st Ave.

Clark County Fire District 10 Assistant Chief Gordon Brooks said firefighters arrived to find a fire in a motor home had spread to a single-wide manufactured home next to it.

Deputy Clark County Fire Marshal Dan Young said a fire started as the homeowner apparently was trying to start the motor home and putting fuel in its carburetor.

What happened isn’t yet clear, he said, due in part to the fire’s thoroughness.

“It was down to the frame,” he said.

The fire destroyed the motor home and spread to the manufactured home, doing about $50,000 in total damage, he said.

The man was taken to a hospital, Young said. Brooks said the victim suffered smoke inhalation and severe burns.
