The lost city of Vanport will be the topic of the First Thursday event at the Clark County Historical Museum, 1511 Main St.

Portland author Zita Podany’s 7 p.m. discussion will look back at the housing project that was built in the floodplain on the south side of the Columbia River to house World War II shipyard workers.

It was a city with many firsts. And on May 30, 1948, Vanport disappeared in a flood that killed at least 15 people.

Admission: $5 for adults; $4 for seniors; $3 for children under 18; free for museum members. Doors will open at 5 p.m.
